The Rome Fashion house has been without a creative lead since the passing of the late Karl Lagerfeld. Since 2019, Silvia Fendi, third generation Fendi, has been leading the brand.

Today, Wednesday September 9, 2020, LVMH appointment Kim Jones to succeed Lagerfeld as Ready to Wear, Haute Couture, and Fur creative director. Fendi will continue to lead accessories and menswear for her namesake fashion house. Silvia said that she is looking forward to taking Fendi “to the next level with him.”

Karl Lagerfeld held the womenswear design chief position from 1977 to 2019. Mr. Jones has big shoes to fill for the late designer and it wont come easy. Jones will continue to lead Dior Homme and take on his first lead womenswear role. It is very rare to see a designer lead for two huge houses like Fendi and Dior. “Working at Fendi and Dior together is a huge privilege.” Kim stated. The pressure is on to see how the designer handles the endless responsibility that it will take to lead two major houses. During times where the fashion industry is making a major shift, will Jones be able to keep his head above the water?

While this would seem like a task too big to take on, Kim Jones might be the only person fit for such a big job. He is expected to bring a new way of doing things to the brand. Much like he did at Louis Vuitton. He was amongst the first designers to bring streetwear to high fashion with the iconic Supreme x Louis Vuitton collaboration. We are very excited to see what he will bring to a brand like Fendi who has been under the same direction for so long.

Jones’ first collection with Fendi will debut in February during Winter Fall 21/22 fashion week. This is the second house to announce major changes in design teams this year, following the announcement of Raf Simons joining Miuccia Prada as co-creative director of Prada. Their collection will debut later this month during Milan fashion week.
