Guess Who's Back!?

It brings me an infinite amount of joy to announce that Phoebe Philo will be making a highly anticipated return to fashion with her own line after parting from Céline in 2018. Such an occasion would allow me to make a return as well. Two legends, getting back to the things they do best.

While my success is self proclaimed in hopes that I can manifest it to reality, Phoebe is in fact an industry legend.

I must say, that this announcement did not come without prior speculations. Since her departure, I have been pondering on how she would return from her prolonged vacation. I mean, she couldn’t stay away forever. ‘Will she take the reins at Chanel since the passing of Karl?’, ‘Maybe she will go to Dior?’, (I have a personal vendetta against Maria Chiuri).

Returning with her own collection was definitely considered. How could the past 3 years, and a pandemic not allow her creative genius to flow!?

Phoebe’s Céline is one of the most impactful eras of our time. With a cult like following and the influence to change the way womenswear would be designed forever, she created history. Philo eliminated the patriarchy created by men, in women’s fashion. (Because men literally ruin everything.) Creating for a woman who was wealthy, and desired to appear that way, all while conveying an understated presence. The need to be decorated by clothes is blasphemous to this woman, and we admire her for that. She reached a new audience. An older, much more mature, woman would be her muse.

Phoebe endorsed her target audience by casting seasoned women for campaigns. These went on to become some of the most monumental campaigns to date, sweeping social media and creating a huge uproar for the future of the brand. She decreased the desire for seasonal trends and debuted an “ugly cute” trademark on the brand. Low rise, wide leg trousers that swept the floor, long hemlines, loose silhouettes, interesting shoes and necklines; and we ate it up.

When Phoebe left Céline, it felt like the end of an era, I mean, it was! Fortunately for us, we were able to get our fix from brands like The Row, Jil Sander, and Daniel Lee's Bottega Veneta. Lee is argued to be Phoebe's protege since he worked with the designer as the RTW director at Céline. But still, the desire to get Phoebe back into the industry was heavy. Super fans went on to create Instagram accounts and merch praising the designer and celebrating the ‘Old É'. And just two days ago, in the middle of the night, our dreams came true.

We don’t know too much about the up and coming collection, scheduled to debut in 2022, but we do know that Phoebe is happy to have her independence. Though the brand will be partially backed by LVMH, her employers from back in the day, she will still hold most of the power. The collection is expected to debut with high end luxury pricing. We can’t say whether it will be womenswear, menswear, both, or a unisex collection, more information is promised to release at the beginning of the new year.

Knowing Phoebe, she isn't going to deliver anything like what she has done in the past. We are gearing up for a new perspective from the designer. We can hope that the brands values take on a slow and sustainable approach to production, steering away from the fast fashion trends heavily influenced by social media.

So save your coins cuties because our girl is back!
